Static Design for Laterally Loaded Rigid Monopiles in Cohesive Soil

چکیده
Rigid monopiles with small slenderness ratios (i.e., ratio of monopile embedded length to outer diameter) are widely used as foundations resist lateral load and moment transferred from superstructures, e.g., large diameter steel pipes by offshore wind turbines piers in electric utility industry or sound barriers. A design model for laterally loaded rigid cohesive soil is presented this paper. The proposed assumes a constant depth rotation point well trilinear distribution reaction along the monopile, introduces mobilization coefficient quantify magnitude mobilized under certain applied at head. relationship between head established back-analyzing test results measured series pile tests, then general procedure recommended. feasibility reliability validated against three cases numerical simulations on piles soils. It shows that study’s produces relatively satisfactory prediction nonlinear load-deformation response, can be sites undrained shear strength being uniform increasing linearly depth.

Laterally loaded rigid piles in cohesionless soil
In this paper, limiting force profile for laterally loaded rigid piles in sand and is differentiated from the on-pile force profile, from which elastic-plastic solutions are established and presented in explicity expressioins. Nonlinear responses of the piles are characterized by slip depths mobilized from mudline and the pile-tip. At the states of tip-yield and rotation point yield, expression...
متن کاملDevelopment of p-y Curves of Laterally Loaded Piles in Cohesionless Soil
The research on damages of structures that are supported by deep foundations has been quite intensive in the past decade. Kinematic interaction in soil-pile interaction is evaluated based on the p-y curve approach. Existing p-y curves have considered the effects of relative density on soil-pile interaction in sandy soil. The roughness influence of the surface wall pile on p-y curves has not bee...
متن کاملTrench stability in cohesive soil
Trench is connected to very narrow and deep excavation filled with bentonite suspension. This paper presents estimation of its stability in cohesive soil. The stability is assessed by two calculation methods. The first involves the equilibrium of forces acting on the rigid wedge. The second one includes numerical calculations conducted in Plaxis 3D Foundations. A few examples having different d...
متن کامل“Cohesive Soil”: A Dangerous Oxymoron
The geotechnical literature is not exempt from oxymorons. For example, analytical solutions for interparticle contact clearly show that soils and all particulate materials are inherently non-linear -Hertz theoryand non-elastic -Mindlin’s theory (See Richart, Hall and Woods, 1970; Cascante and Santamarina, 1996). Yet, “linearelastic soil behavior” is a common expression. In most cases it refers ...
